Premier and Minister for the Arts Anna Bligh has announced the commencement of filming on the Gold Coast for a new 3D suspense movie.

"Sanctum, a new film with James Cameron (Titanic) as executive producer, joins the growing list of national and international productions that have chosen Queensland as the perfect location," Ms Bligh said.

"Right now there is over $52 million of Queensland Government-supported film and television production being shot in Queensland.

"Sanctum joins I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here Series 9, Sea Patrol 4 and The Elephant Princess 2 on the state's current production slate while major international production The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader wrapped its Queensland shoot last week (27 Nov).

"Productions supported by my Government through funding by Screen Queensland (formerly Pacific Film and Television Commission) are providing more than $95 million in flow-on economic activity and creating nearly 2000 jobs," Ms Bligh said.

"Sanctum will film at the Warner Roadshow studio on the Gold Coast, utilising their water tank facility, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere."

The Premier said the film will be directed by Alistair Grierson (Kokoda) and is based on the real-life experience of Australian producer and co-writer, Andrew Wight, who was diving beneath the Nullarbor when a storm collapsed the entrance to the cave, trapping him and his fellow divers.

"UK reality show I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here is in Queensland for its ninth series shooting at locations around the Gold Coast and at Stradbroke Island," Ms Bligh said.

"The repeat production of I'm a Celebrity has created over 1500 jobs and generated over $70 million in economic activity for Queensland during the last six series alone."

Sea Patrol, produced by Channel Nine and McElroy All Media, is filming at Far North Queensland's Mission Beach and at Warner Roadshow Studios.

Jonathan Shiff's The Elephant Princess 2 is also filming in Queensland. The first series of the children's drama filmed in Victoria with the second series moving to Queensland, the home of Shiff's award-winning H20: Just Add Water.

Ms Bligh said the Government, through Screen Queensland, had provided $6 million of development, production and investment funding to the productions as part of an objective to stimulate the local screen industry and deliver economic benefits to the state.
