Tourism

Gold Coast City is widely acknowledged as Australia's premier tourist destination attracting over 10 million overnight and daytrip visitors each year. The city boasts a wealth of natural attractions ranging from its internationally acclaimed beaches to World Heritage Listed subtropical rainforests.

It has well-developed tourism services and infrastructure, and experienced industry operators. These assets, combined with the city's location, sub-tropical climate and quality lifestyle, have attracted large numbers of visitors to the Gold Coast since the early 1900's.

There are two major institutional players driving Gold Coast City tourism development, The Economic Development Branch of the Gold Coast City Council and Gold Coast Tourism, both playing distinctive roles.

The Economic Development Branch of the Gold Coast City Council Tourismoperates in conjunction with other tiers of Government, industry and community reference groups. Its primary concerns are industry development and strategic planning, policy, development issues and research to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the Gold Coast as a leading Australian tourist destination.

Gold Coast Tourism is the region’s principle tourism marketing body. In partnership with members, industry and stakeholders, the organisation markets the Gold Coast to leisure and business tourists in international and domestic markets.
